Charter Hall
The Charter Hall is suitable for all types of event. The sprung floor makes it ideal for dancing. A balcony provides an attractive setting and can be used as a technical gallery for lighting.

Catering

The Corn Exchange offers flexible catering arrangements to suit every need. So if you want to provide the food and drinks yourself, get an outside caterer in, or want us to arrange catering for you, we can do it.
 

Small and simple

For meetings and small events, water boilers are located in the kitchen and the Charter Hall server, and the upstairs serving area, allowing users to make their own teas and coffees. These areas also have a fridge and washing-up facilities.
 

Larger events

There is a kitchen adjacent to the main Charter Hall with an optional serving hatch; in and out swing doors provide for more formal dining. The kitchen is equipped with two 6-ring gas hobs and ovens, a double fridge, hot cupboards, worktops and a commercial pass-through dishwasher. Crockery/cutlery is provided for 120 – although cooking and serving dishes and utensils are not included. You can use the kitchen yourself or get outside caterers in. We can suggest local caterers: all have the necessary certificates. For dining events, we have round tables, each suitable for up to eight people. The Charter Hall can accommodate a maximum of 15 tables (120 people).

For larger meetings, conferences etc we can make the arrangements for you – from providing teas and coffees to your guests to laying on a full buffet. Please call us to discuss your requirements.
 

Bar

The Corn Exchange is fully licensed. The main Charter Hall and upstairs ACE Suite have bar counters with a range of wines, beers and spirits. When the bar is used for certain public events, security staff may have to be deployed and we will arrange this at extra cost.
 

Stage equipment and facilities

The Corn Exchange is an ideal venue for a wide range of musical and drama performances and rehearsals. Staging, lighting and sound facilities are available for you to use and we will provide technical help in setting up. You can also bring your own additional equipment in to suit your particular needs. For performances in the main Charter Hall, the first floor Flexi Rooms can be used as changing rooms.
 

Staging

To provide maximum flexibility for your performance, the Corn Exchange has a quantity of movable stage sections. The main sections are 2 x 1m and 600mm or 400mm high. The staging also comes with black curtains to hide the legs.
 

Sound

The Charter Hall has a voice reinforcement system, comprising radio microphones, loudspeakers and an audio induction loop. This simple-to-use system is ideal for meetings or for making announcements at events. There is also a CD player and sockets to plug in other sound sources.
The Tony Burgess Room, ACE Suite and Flexi Rooms have their own local systems but without induction loops. Switches allow announcements and music to be broadcast to the entire building if required.
For performances, pre-wired sound boxes with XLR sockets are provided in the Charter Hall linked to the balcony sound desk location.
 

Stage lighting and effects

The Charter Hall has a 60-channel dimming system with 15A round pin outlets around the hall under the balcony, plus some at hall level at one end. The balcony can operate as a technical gallery. A fixing rail is provided around the edge of the balcony. We also have four lighting trees that can be installed around the balcony for additional height. DMX outlets are provided around the hall. We have a limited number of stage lights and a control desk for hire.
The underside of the balcony also has a number of 13A outlets and 16A industrial sockets for special effects. These can be controlled via the adjacent DMX outlets.
To help set up for performances, we have technical staff available: technical staff have to be used for users not familiar with the building.
